Irish health insurance levy rise in 2012

9 January 2012

The Irish authorities have announced that the existing health insurance levy charged on private health insurance premiums have been increased for 2012 by 40%.

The levy for an adult has increased from €205 to €285, while the levy for a child has increased from €66 to €95.  This means that a family of two adults and two children may have to pay around an extra €220 for their health cover if insurance companies choose to pass on the increase to the policyholders.
