French IPT on health insurance change Oct 2011

The proposal to increase insurance premium taxes on French health insurance policies has been implemented in spite of the Senate voting against elements of the rise last week.

Health policies that do not require the policyholder to have a medical examination or make disclosures are now taxed at 7% of the premium up from the previous 3.5% rate.

Health policies without such conditions have increased from 7% to 9% of the premium.

Both increases are effective from 1st October 2011.
