Finland proposes new 2% VAT increase to 25%

23 December 2010

The Finnish Ministry of Finance has proposed a 2% VAT increase to 25%, the notional maximum permitted in the EU.  This is part of a package of potential measures cutting income tax and business taxes.  It reflects a global trend of shifting the tax burden to consumption.

Finland last increased its VAT rate from 22% to 23% in July 2010.
