EU VAT reform plans expected Dec 2011

Following the public debate around the EU VAT Green Paper on VAT reform, it is expected that the European Commission will issue the next stage proposals, a White Paper, for debate before the end of 2011.

Major issues to help improve the efficiency of the European VAT system will include:

- moves towards a single, harmonised EU VAT Rate across all 27 EU Member States

- consistent rules and requirements for VAT registrations and VAT returns in all countries.

- standard VAT invoice format and reporting requirements
