The Czech coalition government today announced plans to cut the Standard VAT rate from 20% to 17.5% in January 2013. It will also raise the Reduced Rate initially to 14% for 2013, and then to 17.5% in 2013.

The Standard and Reduced Rates are currently set at 20% and 10%, respectively. The Standard VAT Rate was increased from 19% to 20% at the start of 2010 as a temporary measure in response to the global financial crisis.
